The Glamorgan Construction Training group is a collaborative employer-led group of businesses committed to training our staff at all levels from basic skills to management.

This is achieved by working in partnership with clients, professional bodies, contractors, Trade Federations, Trades Unions and FE and private training providers to develop flexible training and skills development to ensure we have sufficiently skilled craftspeople to work in our industry now and in the future.

We provide local, high quality, realistically priced training, designed to meet the Group Member Companies’ needs through joint venture and partnerships by;

    • Regular notification of forthcoming training events
    • Reduced training fees with agreed discounts
    • Advice on funding and grants
    • Meetings with relevant guest speakers
    • Regular breakfast CPD seminars and workshops

It is the intentions of our Group to not only become the catalyst for all training but to encourage stronger network links amongst its Members and the wider industry for the benefit of the all.

The Annual Membership Subscription is only £100.00 + Vat.

Meetings and Seminars are held at Novotel Cardiff.

Course that the Group enable through alliances with training providers are held at those of the providers.

The Group is supported by Construction Skills – the Sector Skills Council for construction. This is in the form of and adviser as secretary and administrative support based at the Wales area office in Bridgend.

Training Partnership with CIOB

Glamorgan Construction Training Group is the first and largest collective group of employers to become a Training Partner in the UK.
Training Partners are a strategic objective of the CIOB is to qualify the construction industry. One of the ways we pursue this goal is by forming a partnership with an individual company. We partner with many of the top industry brands, and a wide range of SMEs who don’t always have dedicated training departments.

CIOB work with the company to audit the skills of staff and identify which training and development is appropriate to them. There are many and varied routes for individuals to achieve membership, through either an academic route or by drawing on their experience gained in the industry. Membership workshops and CPD events can also be delivered through the agreement, all of which support and guide staff to towards their membership of CIOB.

For example, in the case of recent graduates, we offer a graduate development programme that will bring them up to MCIOB standard within three years, backed by a sophisticated online portfolio builder. At the end of the process, once the 12 competencies of the scheme have been achieved, an individual can become a Chartered member without undergoing a professional review.
The benefits to the company are clear: it receives a free analysis of what is available from CIOB and how we can support them. Staff gain new skills, more qualifications, higher morale and, ultimately, enhanced careers. And the CIOB gets to work with the industry to qualify its people.
