History

The History of Glamorgan Construction Training Group

The group was formed in 1997 and was originally set up to satisfy the need for a stable employer base in relation to apprentice employment and training in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

Membership steadily grew through the 2000s and 2010s to a membership of 40 companies and the group evolved into wider training activities such as operative and management training.

However member companies still account for over 60% employment of the apprentices in the area.

The group has also expanded its activity to companies outside its membership in order to satisfy the needs of the local industry as a whole.

Since the turn of the millennium the group has turned its efforts to supply chain development as well as the continued training of member company workforce.

The group is in a period of growth despite the previous economic downturn and is currently supporting the new Pathway to Apprenticeship scheme to ensure the supply of future skilled tradesmen is maintained.
