What is the Glamorgan Construction Training Group?

The Glamorgan Construction Training Group’s current membership is 39 and comprises of construction companies from South and Mid Glamorgan. Y Prentis and Cardiff and the Vale College have also joined on a co-opted basis.

The group annually elects a management committee consisting of a Chairman, two Vice Chairman and a Treasurer.

Chairman – Darryl Williams, a former CITB Advisor and Training Manager for Lovell has now moved on to pastures new as the Programme Manager for Y Prentis.  He will remain as Chair until the AGM vote in February.

Vice Chairs – Richard Miles of Encon and Ashley Eley of Kingfisher Developments.

Charlie Hargreaves of Engie, Mike Little of Morgan Sindall, John Lewis of Henstaff Construction, Mark Martin of Haines Painting and Decorating, Thomas Atkin of Atkins Trade Specialists and Christian Bowerman of Atlantic Dwellings.

The principles under which the groups were formed was that the group provides a forum within which training and its ancillary subjects could be discussed, developed and implemented at a local level.

The running costs of the Group are covered by an annual subscription of £100.00 per company. Additional income comes from facilitating training, however it is not the intention to make a profit from training, but to offer cost-effective training for member companies.

Non-member companies are on occasion invited to attend group training courses in order to make them financially viable and worthwhile.

Group members meet quarterly to discuss current topics that effect industry locally and nationally, such as CITB grants and changes to legislation that may require training.

A minimum of 6 seminars are arranged annually. These are chosen by the membership and act as information sessions from which companies can decide whether the subject matter requires more in-depth training.
